GLOSSARY

Argon gas

  • CAVITIES BETWEEN GLASS PANES IN EKO+ WINDOWS ARE FILLED WITH ARGON GAS OF 90%

  • a poor conductor of heat = provides great insulation

  • naturally occurring in the environment noble gas which is a colorless, odorless and it is totally inert to other substances

  • does not contain any ozone depleting chemicals, it is not harmful to plant and animal life and is not listed as a marine pollutant.

Triple glazed system

  • consists of three panels of glass panes, which are separated by a spacer bar and seals to create a hermetically–sealed environment

  • the cavity between glass panes is filled with argon gas of high concentration to provide the best thermal insulation

  • its role it is to separate the external climate from the inner micro climate

  • involved in conducting heat to a colder environment and isolating from losing heat at the same time.

PVC

  • polyvinyl chloride–easy to handle, very durable, has high mechanical strength and it is extremely resistant to weather condition and sunlight

  • material completely safe to human

  • 100% recyclable–once produced, the material can be used up to 7 times

  • PVC profiles are easy to clean and do not require significant maintenance

  • resistant to heat, rain, cold, growth of mold, fungus, mechanical damage and chemical agents–will not rot, corrode or peel

  • no need to paint or seal.

SHGC - Solar Heat Gain Coefficient

  • the measure of how much of solar radiation passes through the window

  • is expressed as a number between 0 and 1–an SHGC rating of 0.30 means that 30% of the available solar heat can pass through the window

  • in cooling climates, higher SHGC value will be more advisable as a high SHGC allow a greater amount of solar radiation which will heat up home or building quicker

  • in heating climates, lower SHGC value will be preferable to block unwanted solar radiation

  • in mixed climates, the objective is to stop heat from entering the home during summer and from escaping during winter. To achieve this, good choice would be mid to high range SHGC for north facing windows and low SHGC for east and west facing walls.

Ug or Uc - value of window glazing

  • depends on: type of gas filling of the intermediate space between the glass sheets, the distance between the sheets and the number of sheets.

Uf - value of window frame

  • the area for the calculation of the Uw value is the cross-section of the profile.

Uw - heat transfer coefficient

  • overall value of the window

  • depends on the size of the windows as well as Ug–value of the glazing and Uf- value of the frame

  • measures the rate of non-solar heat loss or gain through a glazed unit in watts

  • the lower the U-value, the more energy efficient your window is

  • windows with lower U-value will be more effective at keeping the heat or cold out.

V-Perfect Technology

  • sets new standards and rises PVC windows to a higher level of aesthetics and architectural possibilities

  • method eliminates weld rod, seam and allows for extreme welding precision

  • modern, clean, precise and fast technology.

VLT - Visible Light Transmission

  • the amount of light in the visible portion of the spectrum that passes through a glass-how much light gets through the window

  • expressed as a number between 0 and 1

  • dictates how many UV rays can pass through the glass

  • influenced by any glass coatings, the number of panes, glazing type and thickness of the frame and sash.
